The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, has released the India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 notification for the second engagement cycle of the year — GDS Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026 — under Notification No. 17-12/2026-GDS dated 20 August 2026. This recruitment covers Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) posts across three categories: Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak, at post offices across postal Circles and Divisions in India.
Candidates who have passed Class 10 (Secondary School Examination) with Mathematics and English, and who meet the local-language condition for their chosen division, can apply online. There is no written examination or interview — selection is based entirely on a merit list prepared from Class 10 marks. Online registration begins on 31 August 2026.
Note: As of this notification, the Department of Posts has not released a total or circle-wise vacancy count for Schedule-II. Division-wise vacancy positions will be published separately on the official portal once registration opens. Selection Process
There is no written examination and no interview for this recruitment. Selection follows these stages, in order:
- A system-generated merit list is prepared from Class 10 marks (or, where a board issues only grades, marks derived using the Department’s conversion formula), calculated up to four decimal places.
- Where marks are tied, priority goes first to the candidate with the older date of birth, followed by a fixed category-and-gender order set by the Department.
- Shortlisted candidates are informed by SMS and email and must report to the Divisional/Unit Head within 15 days for physical document verification.
- On successful verification, a system-generated Offer of Provisional Engagement is issued on the spot.
- The candidate then has 30 days to complete joining formalities, including three days of basic training; BPM-post candidates must also arrange accommodation for the Branch Post Office.
