Selection Process
Selection under BPSC TRE-4.0 is made purely on the basis of a written examination, conducted in two stages. There is no interview.
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination
- Objective-type General Studies paper, 150 marks, 2-hour duration.
- Each question has 5 options; candidates must select an answer or mark option (E) if they choose not to attempt it.
- Negative marking: 1/3 mark is deducted for every wrong answer, and also for any question left unanswered without marking option (E).
- Minimum qualifying marks: 40% for General category, 36.5% for BC, 34% for EBC, and 32% for SC/ST/women/Divyang candidates.
- The number of candidates shortlisted for the Main Examination will be between 2.5 and 10 times the advertised vacancies, category-wise.
Stage 2: Main Examination
| School Level | Paper Structure | Marks |
| Primary (1-5) | Part I – Language (qualifying); Part II – General Studies | 150 |
| Middle (6-8) | Part I – Language (qualifying); Part II – General Studies; Part III – Subject Paper | 150 |
| Secondary (9-10) & Special School | Part I – Language (qualifying); Part II – General Studies; Part III – Subject Paper | 150 |
| Higher Secondary (11-12) | Part I – Language (qualifying); Part II – General Studies; Part III – Subject Paper | 150 |
The Language paper (Part I) is qualifying in nature, requiring a minimum of 30% marks, and does not count towards the final merit. Final merit for Primary posts is based on Part II marks only, while for Middle, Secondary and Higher Secondary posts it is based on the combined marks of Part II and Part III. The same negative marking rule (1/3 mark deduction) and category-wise qualifying percentages used in the Preliminary Exam also apply to the Main Examination. There is no provision for re-evaluation.
Guest teachers (Atithi Shikshak) who meet the prescribed eligibility conditions are entitled to service-based weightage of 5 marks per year of service, up to a maximum of 25 marks, added to their score in both stages, as per applicable Education Department orders.
