SSC CHSL Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria
A candidate must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from certain specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India. Candidates in the latter categories require an eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India.
Educational Qualification
| Post | Qualification Required |
| DEO / DEO Grade ‘A’ in Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution; SSC; and Ministry of Culture | Passed 12th Standard in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject, from a recognised board |
| LDC / JSA and DEO / DEO Grade ‘A’ (all other Ministries/Departments) | Passed 12th Standard or an equivalent examination from a recognised board or university |
Candidates who have appeared for their Class 12 examination and are awaiting results can also apply, but the qualifying result must be declared on or before 7 October 2026. A result shown as ‘under process’ does not satisfy this requirement.
Age Limit
The age limit for SSC CHSL Recruitment 2026 is 18 to 27 years, reckoned as on 1 August 2026. This means candidates born not before 2 August 1999 and not later than 1 August 2008 are eligible to apply.

SSC CHSL Selection Process 2026
Selection is made through a Computer Based Examination conducted in two tiers, followed by document verification.
Tier-I
| Part | Subject | Questions / Marks |
| I | English Language (Basic Knowledge) | 25 / 50 |
| II | General Intelligence | 25 / 50 |
| III | Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill) | 25 / 50 |
| IV | General Awareness | 25 / 50 |
Tier-I consists only of objective-type, multiple-choice questions, with a total duration of 60 minutes. There is negative marking of 0.50 marks for every wrong answer.
Tier-II
Tier-II is held in two sessions on the same day and has four sections: Section-I (Mathematical Abilities and Reasoning & General Intelligence), Section-II (English Language & Comprehension and General Awareness), Section-III (Computer Knowledge Test, which is qualifying in nature), and Section-IV (Skill Test/Typing Test, applicable to DEO and LDC/JSA posts respectively). It is mandatory to qualify in every section of Tier-II. Negative marking of 1 mark per wrong answer applies to Sections I and II.
The final stage is document verification, where shortlisted candidates must produce original certificates for scrutiny.
