UPSC ESE 2027 Application Fee

The application fee structure for UPSC ESE 2027, as per the official notification, is as follows:

The fee can be paid online through net banking, or Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit Card, or UPI. No fee exemption is available to OBC/EWS candidates solely on the basis of category. UPSC ESE 2027 Eligibility Criteria

A candidate must be one of the following:

• A citizen of India; or
• A subject of Nepal; or
• A subject of Bhutan; or
• A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India; or
• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia) or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Candidates in categories (b), (c), (d), and (e) above must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India; where such a certificate is necessary, a candidate may be admitted to the examination, but the offer of appointment will be given only after the certificate is issued.

Educational Qualification

A candidate must hold at least one of the following qualifications:

• A degree in Engineering from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India, or an institution established by an Act of Parliament, or deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956; or
• Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India); or
• A degree/diploma in Engineering from a recognized foreign university/college/institution; or
• Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); or
• Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or
• Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London, held after November 1959.

For Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engineering Posts) and Indian Radio Regulatory Service Group ‘A’, an M.Sc. degree or equivalent with the specified specialization (Wireless Communication Electronics, Radio Physics, or Radio Engineering) is also accepted.

Important Qualification Note

Per the official notification, degrees/certificates from the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India) and the Aeronautical Society of India obtained by candidates admitted after 31 May 2013 are not admissible for ESE 2027. Eligibility of candidates holding qualifications from the Institution of Engineers (India) obtained after admission post 31 May 2013 remains subject to a pending Government decision. Candidates holding such qualifications should read the official notification carefully before applying.

Age Limit

A candidate must have attained 21 years of age and must not have attained 30 years of age as on 1 January 2027, i.e., born not earlier than 2 January 1997 and not later than 1 January 2006.

Age Relaxation

Candidates covered under more than one relaxation category (e.g., SC/ST or OBC combined with Ex-Servicemen or PwBD status) are eligible for cumulative relaxation, as detailed in the official notification.

UPSC ESE 2027 Post-wise Eligibility

A candidate may apply for admission to the examination under any one of the four categories: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. Each category corresponds to a distinct set of Group ‘A’/Group ‘B’ services and posts under various Ministries and Departments, such as the Indian Railway Management Service, Central Water Engineering Service, Indian Defence Service of Engineers, Indian Telecommunication Service, Central Power Engineering Service, and the Indian Skill Development Service, among others. UPSC ESE 2027 Salary / Pay Scale

UPSC ESE 2027 Selection Process

The Personality Test/Interview carries 200 marks, with no minimum qualifying marks. Candidates who obtain the minimum qualifying marks fixed by the Commission in Stage-I and Stage-II are summoned for the interview; the number called is about twice the number of vacancies to be filled.

Negative Marking

Negative marking applies only to the objective-type papers of the Preliminary Examination. Each question has four alternatives; one-third of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for a wrong answer. Marking more than one answer is treated as a wrong answer and attracts the same penalty. Questions left unanswered carry no penalty.

Candidates can apply for UPSC ESE 2027 only through the online mode, as per the steps below:

1. Visit the official UPSC online application portal at upsconline.nic.in.
2. Complete Account Creation and generate the Universal Registration Number (URN), if not already registered.
3. Fill the Common Application Form (CAF) with personal, educational, and category details.
4. Select the Engineering Services Examination 2027 examination-specific module.
5. Choose the preferred examination center and engineering discipline (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics & Telecommunication).
6. Upload the required photograph, live photograph (captured during form-filling), and signature as per specifications.

• Admission to the examination at all stages is purely provisional, subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions; issue of an e-Admit Card does not imply final acceptance of candidature.
• No withdrawal of application is permitted after submission, and no correction/alteration/modification is allowed in any field after submission.
• The e-Admit Card will be available for download on the Commission’s website only; no admit card will be sent by post.
• Mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth devices, and similar communication devices are strictly banned inside the examination venue, even in switched-off mode.
